Tree Planting Initiatives

Forests, green spaces and coastal ecosystems play an essential role in sustaining biodiversity, supporting ecological balance and strengthening environmental resilience. Conserving these natural environments requires collective participation, long-term commitment and greater awareness of the importance of protecting our natural heritage.

Yayasan JCorp works alongside Johor Plantations Group (JPG), schools, local communities and conservation partners to advance tree planting, environmental education and ecosystem conservation.

These collaborations contribute to JPG's One Million Roots for the Future (1MRFF) campaign, which aims to plant one million trees by 2033. Through complementary programmes and shared implementation efforts, Yayasan JCorp and JPG are widening opportunities for individuals, institutions and communities to take an active role in environmental conservation.

Tree Adoption Programme: Growing Together for the Future

A tree planted today holds the potential to benefit the environment for years to come. Through the Tree Adoption Programme, Yayasan JCorp and its partners are creating opportunities for individuals and organisations to contribute to that future.

Introduced on 13 October 2024 at KSRT Club House, Tiram Complex, in collaboration with JPG and JPG Planterra, the programme invites the public and organisations to participate in tree adoption as part of the wider 1MRFF campaign.

Each adopted tree receives care over a two-year period, extending the programme's focus beyond planting to support its early growth and establishment.

By making tree adoption accessible to individuals and organisations, the initiative introduces a more personal dimension to environmental conservation, connecting participants with the responsibility of nurturing the natural environment.

As part of the wider ambition to plant one million trees, the Tree Adoption Programme demonstrates how individual commitments can contribute to a much larger collective environmental effort.

Growing Together: Trees for Schools

Environmental education becomes more meaningful when young people are given opportunities to put what they learn into practice. Through Growing Together: Trees for Schools, Yayasan JCorp, JPG and the Johor State Education Department are extending environmental learning beyond the classroom by bringing tree planting, sustainability awareness and practical conservation activities directly into schools.

Launched on 26 June 2025 at Sungai Johor Eco Retreat (SUNJER), Basir Ismail Estate, the initiative began in Kota Tinggi with the distribution of 6,938 plants to 44 schools and the Kota Tinggi District Education Office. The programme also received support from MBJB through the contribution of 7,000 units of compost fertiliser to encourage healthy plant growth.

Students and teachers participated in hands-on tree planting at the 1MRFF site, gaining practical exposure to environmental conservation while learning about the importance of nurturing green spaces.

Building on its first-year implementation, the programme expanded to Kulai in 2026, distributing another 9,800 plants to 29 schools and the Kulai District Education Office. The Kulai initiative was launched through activities held on 8 and 9 August at SUNJER, featuring interactive learning sessions on sustainability, climate change, waste management and biodiversity.

The programme continued on 12 September 2026 at Sekolah Menengah Pendidikan Khas Vokasional Indahpura, bringing together 211 students, teachers, parents and corporate volunteers. During the activity, 700 trees from the Kulai allocation were planted within the school grounds, further extending the programme's impact through direct school participation.

Since its introduction in 2025, Growing Together: Trees for Schools has distributed 16,738 plants across Kota Tinggi and Kulai, expanding environmental education and school greening efforts across participating institutions.

By bringing together students, educators, families and corporate volunteers, the programme is helping cultivate environmental awareness through shared experiences and practical action.

As the trees take root within school communities, the initiative aspires to nurture a generation that understands the importance of conservation and is empowered to contribute to a greener future.

Mangrove Tree Planting: Protecting Coastal Ecosystems

Mangrove forests are a vital part of coastal ecosystems, providing natural protection against shoreline erosion while supporting marine biodiversity and serving as important habitats for fish, crustaceans, birds and other wildlife.

Recognising their environmental importance, Yayasan JCorp and JPG work alongside local conservation organisations, communities and corporate partners to expand mangrove planting activities across Johor under the 1MRFF campaign.

  • 2024: Establishing a Foundation for Coastal Conservation

The collaborative effort began in 2024 at Pulau Tanjung Surat, Kota Tinggi, where Yayasan JCorp, JPG and Pertubuhan Sahabat Hutan Bakau Pulau Tanjung Surat (PSHBTS) joined forces to plant 500 mangrove trees.

The programme marked the beginning of a continuing partnership with the local conservation organisation, establishing a platform for future planting activities and broader participation in mangrove conservation.

  • 2025: Expanding Partnerships and Conservation Reach

Building on the previous year's efforts, Yayasan JCorp and JPG returned to Pulau Tanjung Surat on 30 May 2025, planting another 2,000 mangrove trees alongside PSHBTS.

The programme also attracted the participation of Waqaf An-Nur as a new collaboration partner, reflecting the growing opportunity for organisations from different sectors to contribute towards shared environmental goals. The activity brought together 80 volunteers from JCorp and its group of companies, further strengthening corporate involvement in coastal conservation.

The conservation efforts subsequently expanded to Muar through a new collaboration with KPJ Bandar Maharani Specialist Hospital and Jawatankuasa Pembangunan dan Keselamatan Kampung (JPKK) Parit Kassim.

On 11 September 2025, a total of 1,111 mangrove trees were planted at Laman Bakau Parit Kassim, involving 80 volunteers from JCorp and its investee companies. The planting figure was selected to commemorate the hospital's anniversary, transforming the occasion into a meaningful contribution towards protecting the local coastal environment.

  • 2026: Strengthening Conservation Across More Coastal Locations

In 2026, Yayasan JCorp continued to build on its established conservation partnerships while extending mangrove planting activities to additional locations.

On 7 July, the programme returned to Pulau Tanjung Surat, where 2,000 mangrove trees were planted in collaboration with Pertubuhan Sahabat Hutan Bakau Pulau Tanjung Surat and JStar Motion. The activity involved 60 volunteers from JCorp Group and JStar Motion, strengthening continued participation in conservation efforts at the site.

Later that month, Yayasan JCorp and JPG extended their efforts to Taman Negara Johor, Tanjung Piai, Pontian, where another 2,000 mangrove trees were planted on 28 July. The programme welcomed E-Tech IT Sdn Bhd as a new corporate partner and brought together 85 volunteers from JCorp, JPG, JLand Group and JSkills.

In Muar, the partnership with KPJ Bandar Maharani Specialist Hospital continued to grow. On 14 October 2026, Yayasan JCorp, JPG and KPJ Bandar Maharani returned to Laman Bakau Parit Kassim for another major mangrove planting initiative, with 10,000 mangrove trees reported planted through the collective participation of 130 volunteers from JCorp Group, corporate partners and the local community.

From Pulau Tanjung Surat to Tanjung Piai and Muar, the programme has developed into a wider network of coastal conservation activities, bringing together local conservation knowledge, corporate participation and community involvement across multiple locations.

These efforts reflect Yayasan JCorp's commitment to advancing coastal ecosystem conservation through continued collaboration and collective responsibility. By strengthening mangrove planting efforts and encouraging broader participation, the programme contributes towards protecting coastal habitats, supporting biodiversity and preserving the ecological functions of these valuable natural environments.

River Conservation: Protecting Our Rivers and Coastlines

Healthy rivers and coastlines are vital to thriving ecosystems and communities. Through river conservation and clean-up initiatives, Yayasan JCorp continues to promote environmental awareness, encourage responsible waste management and inspire collective action to protect our natural resources.

In 2023, Yayasan JCorp commemorated World Rivers Day with a clean-up activity at Sungai Melayu, removing more than 281kg of waste while raising awareness of the importance of protecting freshwater ecosystems.

The commitment continued in 2024 at the national World Rivers Day celebration at Sungai Tebrau, organised in collaboration with UTM Campus Sustainability (UTMCS). Through the Kutip Sampah Sambil Riadah (KUDAH) activity, 300 volunteers collected 857kg of waste along the riverbanks. The programme also saw the launch of a Training of Trainers (TOT) initiative, equipping students from six schools with digital tools such as iNaturalist to monitor biodiversity and promote river conservation within their communities.

In 2025, the focus extended to coastal conservation through a Beach Clean-Up Programme at Pantai Penyabong, Mersing. Bringing together 120 volunteers from Yayasan JCorp, SWCorp, Johor Plantations Group, Wentel Engineering, J-Star Motion and SK Penyabong, the initiative collected 420kg of waste, including 170kg of recyclables. Led by SWM Environment Sdn Bhd in partnership with Yayasan JCorp and Majlis Daerah Mersing, the programme contributed to protecting Johor’s coastlines and marine biodiversity.

Yayasan JCorp has also incorporated beach clean-up activities into its Coral Rehabilitation Programme at Pulau Aur in 2023, 2025 and 2026. Conducted alongside coral rehabilitation efforts, these activities collected a total of 407.1 kg of waste, helping to reduce marine debris, maintain cleaner coastlines and protect fragile marine ecosystems. By combining coral restoration with waste removal, Yayasan JCorp continues to take a holistic approach to marine conservation and safeguarding Johor’s coastal and marine biodiversity.

From riverbanks to coastlines and classrooms, these initiatives reflect Yayasan JCorp’s continued commitment to safeguarding natural ecosystems through community participation, environmental education and collective action, building a cleaner and more sustainable future for generations to come.
