Smart Farming Starts Here

Growing Future-Ready Skills Through Sustainable Education

We are reimagining how students learn by bringing sustainability, innovation and real-world experiences into the classroom.

Through the Smart Farming Greenhouse under the Sustainable School – STEM Programme, developed in collaboration with the Johor State Education Department (JPNJ), Yayasan JCorp is transforming agricultural-based schools across Johor into living classrooms where science meets sustainability and students gain practical skills for the future.

The initiative targets the establishment of 12 Smart Farming Greenhouses across secondary schools in Johor. Each greenhouse spans 600 square feet and is equipped with Internet of Things (IoT) monitoring systems that enable students to manage growing conditions and cultivate up to 2,000 leafy green vegetables using smart technology. By integrating STEM learning with sustainable agriculture, students gain hands-on exposure to technology, environmental stewardship and modern farming practices.

As of 2026, eight of the 12 planned greenhouses have been completed, marking significant progress in expanding sustainable, technology-driven education across the state. Four greenhouses were completed in 2024, three of which were made possible through the generous sponsorship of SEFAR Fabrication (M) Sdn Bhd. In 2025, two additional greenhouses were completed at SMK Buloh Kasap in Segamat and SMK Seri Medan in Batu Pahat, with support from Yayasan Sultan Ibrahim Johor.

The rollout continued in 2026 with the completion of greenhouses at SMK Tasek Utara and SMK Kota Puteri 2, both designated as Sekolah Rintis Bangsa Johor, with support from Johor Plantations Group Berhad and Waqaf An-Nur Corporation Berhad.

STEM in Action: Growing Future Innovators Through Smart Farming

Beyond infrastructure, the programme promotes knowledge-sharing, collaboration and innovative teaching practices to strengthen STEM education. Building on these efforts, Yayasan JCorp organised the Sustainable School – STEM Symposium 2026 on 11 June 2026, bringing together 300 educators, policymakers and strategic partners to advance sustainability-driven learning. A key highlight was the STEM Prototype Showcase and Competition, where participating schools presented innovative solutions developed through classroom implementation. SMK Bandar Baru Uda emerged as the overall champion, recognised for its outstanding innovation and application of STEM learning. The symposium also marked a significant milestone with the signing of a Heads of Agreement between Yayasan JCorp and Petrosains, paving the way for broader STEM learning opportunities and future innovation-driven programmes.

Since its inception in 2023, the Sustainable School – STEM Programme has progressed through strategic collaboration with the Johor State Education Department (JPNJ), Singapore’s National Institute of Education (NIE) and Temasek Foundation, creating meaningful opportunities for hands-on learning and strengthening the foundation for future-ready STEM education.

With eight greenhouses completed and four more planned, the initiative continues to lay the foundation for engaging, practical and future-ready learning environments across Johor. By connecting classroom knowledge with real-world applications, Yayasan JCorp seeks to inspire students to explore science and technology, develop problem-solving skills and understand the importance of sustainable food production.

More than growing crops, we are cultivating knowledge, innovation and a generation ready to shape a greener, more sustainable future.
